Valeriya Salamatina Accepts a Two-Year Ban for Anti-Doping Rule Violation

26 May 2025, Lausanne – The Aquatics Integrity Unit (AQIU) acknowledges the decision of the International Testing Agency (ITA) to impose a two-year period of ineligibility on Russian swimmer Valeriya Salamatina for an Anti-Doping Rule Violation. The ban stems from a breach of Article 2.1 and/or Article 2.2 of the World Aquatics Anti-Doping Rules, relating to the presence of a prohibited substance in the athlete’s sample.

Salamatina admitted to the Anti-Doping Rule Violation following a positive test on 9 March 2025 for the banned diuretic Furosemide and has accepted the suspension. Additionally, all results obtained by her from 9 March 2025 have been disqualified.

The AQIU reminds all athletes that they are responsible for any substances found in their bodies. To help them make informed choices, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) publishes a Prohibited List of all banned substances and methods in sport, which is updated annually. Athletes are strongly advised to check all medications and supplements carefully before use to stay clean and compete fairly.
