Aquatics Integrity Unit Establishes Pro Bono Counsel List for Global Aquatics Community

The Aquatics Integrity Unit (AQIU) has established a Pro Bono Counsel List to help ensure that athletes, coaches, officials and other individual licence-holders of Member Federations are not disadvantaged by a lack of financial means when seeking legal assistance.

This initiative is aimed at ensuring the global aquatics community can benefit from fair access to justice, a key principle which contributes to a healthy sporting environment.

The list facilitates access to independent legal advice and/or representation at no cost to the individual, covering matters within the jurisdiction of World Aquatics and/or the AQIU. These include athlete eligibility and selection disputes, disciplinary proceedings, safeguarding matters and anti-doping proceedings.

Assistance is provided entirely free of professional charge, and may include summary legal advice, help with written submissions, or representation before World Aquatics bodies and other competent sports tribunals.

The lawyer-client relationship exists solely between the Pro Bono Counsel and the assisted person. The AQIU is not a party to that relationship and does not supervise, control or assume responsibility for the legal work provided.

Individuals seeking assistance can submit a request through the Pro Bono Counsel Application Form. The AQIU will review the request, assess eligibility and, if eligible, identify suitable counsel who will then make contact directly. Please note that pro bono support is available to individuals only and is not open to clubs or Member Federations.
