Bolivian Doctor Accepts a Six Year Ban for Anti-Doping Rule Violations

12 June 2025, Lausanne – The Aquatics Integrity Unit (AQIU) acknowledges the decision of the International Testing Agency (ITA) to impose a six-year period of ineligibility on Dr. Matheus Das Neves Borgo, a Bolivian athlete support personnel, for multiple Anti-Doping Rule Violations.

Dr. Borgo breached Articles 2.8 and/or Article 2.9 of the World Aquatics Anti-Doping Rules by adding the prohibited substance Furosemide to an athlete’s supplements and instructing its use. Dr. Borgo has accepted the sanction.

During the period of ineligibility, Dr. Borgo cannot participate in any capacity in a competition or activity authorised or organised by World Aquatics, its member federations and their clubs, or any other signatories of the World Anti-Doping Code

Medical professionals play a vital role in supporting clean sport and athlete well-being. As athlete support personnel, they must prioritise athletes’ health. AQIU encourages all medical professionals to stay informed by completing the ADEL for Medical Professionals Education Program, which outlines their key rights and responsibilities.
